Our very popular Explorer Program takes place every year in February. It is the trip of a lifetime, and our 27 years of safari experience ensure that you return home with the very best experience, memories and photos.

Safari with Friends

February 2 Arrive at Nairobi airport for pick up and transfer to luxury hotel or Tea Plantation estate house near Nairobi. Meet and greet. Safari travel introduction. Local community.
February 3 Day trip to Karen to visit Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Center, Kazuri Bead Factory, Bronze Gallery.
February 4 & 5 Travel to the Great Rift Valley to visit Mt. Longonot [hiking if wanted], visits to local artist studios, enjoy a cottage stay on a farm near Njoro, Ladies Craft Center, game drives in picturesque Lake Nakuru National Park [lions, rhinos and much more].
February 6 Visit the National Museum to view the discoveries of archaeologists and anthropologists from sites in East Africa. See the Snake Park.
February 7 & 8 Travel to the Mount Kenya area to spend a couple of nights at a luxury tented camp in Ol Pejeta Conservancy with great wildlife, including rhinos, and even a Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Take in amazing landscapes with a view of Mt Kenya. A good place to spot African Wild Dogs.
February
9, 10 & 11
Samburu - Enjoy a stay at a riverside luxury tented camp. Daily Game drives in Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba with enormous numbers of elephants along with big cats and dry environment animals like oryx, in an unbelievable landscape setting.
February 12 Return to Nairobi.
February
13 & 14
Rest up with local trips to craft centers like Utamaduni. Visit Carnivore restaurant, Karen Blixen Gardens.
February
15, 16 & 17
Travel to the Masai Mara Reserve staying in a luxury tented camp and lodge and enjoy the ultimate in game viewing. Meet the Maasai in villages and schools. Daily game drives to see lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffalo, elephants and more.
February 18 Return to Nairobi.
February 19 Return home OR - Prepare for coast trip [packing; hair, nails? shopping?]
February 20 Fly to the south coast for 7 days of sunshine, warm water, white sand beaches, Swahili culture.

South Coast – Diani Beach area

Feb. 20 – Fly to the coast for 5 days of sunshine, warm water, white sand beaches, Swahili culture. 

Fly from Nairobi direct to the Mombasa airport near Diani Beach area of Kenya with sandy shores, warm water, SCUBA diving and more.

Pinewoods Beach Resort and Spa is our choice for the south coast destination. It is a multi-award-winning resort, winner of Travelers Choice award with quiet natural beauty and an artistically inspired design. Enjoy the gym and spa, lounges, and pool as well as various activities including tennis, squash, darts, ping pong, kite and wind surfing and more. Set on a magnificent sand beach, the resort is organized around a giant baobab tree and is visited by numerous Sykes and Colobus monkeys.


A suggestion: Why wait for the coast trip? Arrive on January 28, stay with us in Nairobi and then begin your stay in Kenya by flying directly to the north coast for a 4 day stay to rest and sun while you get over jetlag. Enjoy the sand beaches of Watamu and the associated Marine Park. Then go on safari.

North Coast – Watamu area
Fly from Nairobi direct to Malindi airport near Watamu. An amazing beach location on the shores of the Marine National Park. A paradise for swimming, snorkeling and diving.

Enjoy your stay at the award-winning, all- inclusive Turtle Bay Resort in Watamu.  Rest in the sun, swim in the  pools and warm ocean or take advantage of the many other opportunities and activities at the resort. Water aerobics anyone? Beach walks, games, camel rides, beach volleyball and more. Snorkel or SCUBA dive in the marine park. Evening entertainment and dancing.

Return to Nairobi to begin your inland safari as described above.

All of our safaris or customized trips are available at other times of year as well. We can also replace the luxury lodges with bush camping if you prefer. Just contact us for information.

Explorers must make their own arrangements for air travel to Nairobi. Email Brian for advice on flights and connections.

Included in each Safari Package

  • Airport pick up in Nairobi
  • All food and accommodation including water, tea, coffee
  • All land transportation in East Africa including Nairobi airport transfers except on the coast

Not included in the basic daily rate:

  • Travel medical insurance
  • Kenyan visa
  • Immunizations and anti-malarial drugs

  • Return flights from Nairobi to the coast

Note: In order to book your trip, your deposit of $500. US must be received. An invoice for your trip minus the deposit will be mailed to you after booking.
